                Valley of Fear
Mr. Douglas came up to Watson, handed over a roll of papers and said, "This is the story of the Valley of Fear I wrote in the recent couple of days." Turning to the crowd, he began his whole story.
"One day on my way out from home, I spotted the most fierce enemy of mine. I realized I was in danger. I had been very careful after returning home. That day when I was about to enter my study with my pajamas on, I encountered that enemy. I shot two barrels of bullets in his face when we were fighting. During that time, his sleeve was rolled up. The same kind of mark was found in his arm as in mine. On seeing it, I hit up on a plan, which was also discussed with my wife and Barker who came as a response to the gunshots. Since his height and figure were almost like mine, nobody would think the dead was not me after putting on my pajamas and my rings. Then we tied all his belongings and made a bundle, together with the only weight that could be found at hand, and then threw them into the moat. We put his card beside him. As to the wedding ring, I can't remove it because it has been on my finger for many years. The reason I did this is to let the reactionary gang give up their chasing and attempt to kill me. I thought what we had done was perfect. But I never imagine Mr. Holmes has seen through it."
